Moving from a semi-subterranean site below a new residential development in Surry Hills, Design Nation (formerly Cafe Culture + Insitu) moved to a recently upgraded industrial heritage warehouse on the leafy George Street, Redfern.
The new retail showroom needed to function as a workplace for staff, a platform for showcasing new and existing products and as an event space. The existing heritage building has functional rectangular foot print with a external terrace to the rear. The interiors were designed to stand independently from the warehouse envelope, emphasised by using an angular planning grid for plinths and partitions that stand of their own accord.
The Design Nation showrooms in Melbourne and Brisbane are also designed by Hammond Studio.
